Alright so working on backstory, buuuut need to know about the races of eyrndor. I couldn't find anything on sidhe/fae/changlings. Are those sorts of races alowed? I'm kinda a freak for norse and celtic mythology and these always interested me.

...and no I don't mean fairies. I mean the irish myths of the fae like those in the stories of the Tuatha De Dannan

Eryndor is a fantasy realm, and the only mystical creature, storyline wise, that is missing is dragons, and that's because they were killed off forever ago.

So, do whatever you what. There are a handful of elves and dwarves running around. The nice thing about Eryndor is, if there is no precedent, then you get to establish everything.

Here's what I've got so far:

Name: Gahr
Age: 21
Preferred Weapon(s): Sword and Board
Rank: Newbie
Standing: ???
Affiliations: ???
Knots: ???

I was born and raised in the highlands of Dugar, near the village (more of a trading post, really) of Grythborg. My father was a merchant, trading metal ores to the southern clans for furs and food. My life growing up was relatively easy by Dugar’s standards, considering the clan’s general peaceful nature and successful trading. This isn’t to say I didn’t work hard, ore certainly won’t mine itself, but there was time for merry-making and, other than a few harsher winters, our clan rarely had trouble getting enough food to feed everyone. Though most of my childhood and earlier adult years were spent working in the mines, I was trained in battle, as southern clans would occasionally invade.

During the summers, once I was old enough, my father would send me to Grythborg to sell our ores when he couldn’t go himself. I always enjoyed these trips, not only as an excuse to work outside of the mines, but for the celebrations of the summer season at the local tavern.

...?

I'm trying to think of an excuse to leave without making myself sound to orphan-y, since that's super lame. Also, the ??? are there because I have no idea what that stuff is. Any thoughts/grammatical thingies/criticisms are welcome!

-Gahr/Jimmy (In case you don't know my dag name yet.)

Your standing and rank are recruit (unless you haven't been to three practices with an envoy). (standing is your in-unit status, which is recruit, active, in-active, or non-com. rank is your rank in eryndor, which is recruit, fighter, hunter, or hero)

Affiliations include any groups that you are aligned with. This could be an in-unit organization (the mourners, for example) or something out of realm (militia).

Knots are in-unit awards. You has none. Most people have none, since we've only handed out a couple so far.

For your backstory, thank you for trying to avoid cliches, and so far it sounds good. You can do as much or as little as you like, it all depends on how into the RP side of Eryndor (dagorhir itself has very little RP, Eryndor is known has a RP heavy realm, and I think most actually LARPers would find that fact hilarious)

You decide the man your dad always sells to is low balling you. You decide to go out and find better offers, and run into a man who says that there is a port city on the continent that will pay huge sums for your ore. You accept as you would make more in this trip than your father has in the last five years. You get by this mans boat, he of course negotiates a percentage and you get to the city and make the sale. Unfortunately for you once the captain has his money he's off to make the next sale and is going nowhere near Dugar, in fact none of the boats are going anywhere near Dugar. You were stuck so you used your newly earned money to buy a cart and sell items from city to city till you found a way home and ran into the crusade. (just an example of what you could do)

Mostly done, I just need two people to agree to save me in the end. Other critiques are welcome as well!

During the summers, once I was old enough, my father would send my older brother and I to Grythborg to sell our ores when he couldn’t go himself. I always enjoyed these trips, not only as an excuse to work outside of the mines, but also for the celebrations of the summer season at the local tavern.

While on one such trip, my brother was met by a man clearly not from around the highlands. He managed to convince my brother that we could sell our ore for nearly five times what we would normally receive in Grythborg if we travelled to Hithdor, on the mainland. My brother and I agreed that it was a promising prospect, and all the man asked was a small percentage of the profits upfront. Young and naïve, we paid the man what he asked, and in return he paid for the voyage to Hithdor. Only I went, since we couldn’t very well leave the clan waiting for as long as it would take to travel to the mainland and back.

After a long journey, I arrived in Hithdor hoping to sell my father’s ores, and return to my clan with the wealth of the mainland. Unfortunately, I hadn’t been educated much in the geography of the main continent and Hithdor happens to be located in Forfalas, a region with more than its fair share of ore-rich mountains. I soon discovered that my ore wasn’t worth any more in Hithdor than it was back on Dugar; my brother and I had been swindled. I ended up selling the remaining ore for what people would pay for it, but it wasn’t even enough to pay for the trip back, nor could I show my face to my clan after being conned so easily.

Angry at the man for tricking us, and myself for being so dim-witted as to fall for it, I went to one of the local taverns to forget about the whole thing. After a few hours, I left a drunken mess, yelling at the night sky. Well, as it turns out, Hithdorian law doesn’t appreciate loud, drunken men in kilts walking down it’s streets at night, and I was quickly found by a patrolling soldier. I stupidly drew my sword, and in my stupor tried to fight him. It wasn’t long before the soldier had backed me into a corner. Luckily for me however, two men walked out of the pub across the street, and for whatever reason, came to my aid. Later, the two of them took me back to the pub. After I told them why I was in Hithdor—the kilt kind of sticks out of a crowd, as it were—they informed me of the Crusades. Being in their debt, and with nothing else to go back to, I begged them to let me join.

They said the continent was no place to start a family. They said humans would rise and quarrel and fall and rise to quarrel again, and who would want their precious progeny to grow up amidst that? Some chose to stay in Eredhel; her parents being practical, cautious craftsmen (her mother, Alindriel, a potter, father Nelvaris, a weaver) went with the rest to Edheliu, to build their family in peace, undisturbed by the casual brutality humans were so capable of inflicting on their fellow creature.

Edheliu was paradise; lush vegetation that was never overgrown camouflaged homes and well worn trails. Hidden streams winked beneath shadowy boughs. Truly, it is the most beautiful of homes and for the longest time it was the greatest of wonders for a child. Safe, secure, the boundaries of the island were her entire world and in her youth she never thought to look beyond them. She was a cherished commodity, an elvish child. They were not a prolific race, and for her parents to have produced two offspring was somewhat impressive. She chased her brother Anvaridel about and was indulged by adults who watched for for trespassers to their island home.

If Edheliu was a paradise for a child, it was a boring near-prison for an imaginative and restless young adult. She learned of what was happening on the continent...the seemingly endless wars of man and orc, the burning of the Lifetree and the rise of Maegamarth. She was not the only restless soul, tired of looking on from their impervious fortress island and doing nothing while the world beyond burned.

When the elves of Edheliu set sail, she went with them, armed and armored for a conflict they could no longer ignore. She marched with her brothers and sisters in arms against what they thought was Maegamarth, thought to take his crown only to find the king of Eredhel, dead with the elvish crown upon his brow.

Filled with a profound desire to help the Crusade, to somehow make up for all the years she was sheltered on the gentle island of Edheliu, she swore to lend what strength she had to the Fury of the Called.

(I made up elfy sounding names for Nova's fam, but if for some reason in the future anyone ever wants to play my sibling names and gender can be changed emoticon Also I didn't pick a date for her to be born, and she's a little sensitive about her young age, so don't ask)
