Leos Life

Leos rose from his slumber

"Uuuggghhhhhh."

He slowly churned his head to the right as he looked at his hand he could see a bottle lying next to it that read "Train-wreck" Underneath the artful inscription was a note "Princess...your fault for everything your now experiencing. Oh and by the by look left -Major Toland"

"This is going to suck isn't it"

As Leos carefully looked to his left he saw a women of more ogre-like build slumbering like a dying bear within his tent.
He quietly slinked out of his dwelling and blinked his eyes in pain of the noon day sun. The Fury was about making lunch, sharpening weapons, and generally preparing for anything that may find their path. Leos still found it amazing that these people from every background and walk of life could act so coordinated and trained like a well oiled machine. His old merc unit was quite the force, but, this handful of men and women would have chopped them to pieces if given a chance. He vomited.

"Ah my young apprentice has come to greet the day. And just in time to fetch water from the river how thoughtful hahaha."

Jayne walked towards Leos carrying his shield and sheathing his blade.

"My my I’m never to surprised by you Princess. You always manage to take a simple night of fun and turn into a mourning of regret. Speaking of Mary how did she sleep? Well in your capable hands i trust"

Leos turned to him "Master it has been a very trying 5 minutes may i please just eat and begin my training"

Jayne spoke "My pupil you need not always declare me a master. You cam to me with skill i am but fine tuning it. Thou common sense and correct judgment may be harder to beat into that skull of yours."

Leos "Yes yes very good sir well done. What do you ask of me today Jayne?"

Jayne threw two empty buckets at Leos' feet.

Jayne said "Fill them, bring them back, and then we'll begin your lesson"

Leos grabbed the buckets and began his trek to the river.

Jayne shouted "Oh Higgins"

"Joseph will never understand" thought Leos

Jayne "I believe that this sword and shield would like to keep you company upon your travel this day hahaha"

Leos strapped his shield to his back and sheathed his blade. He actually wouldn't mind hacking something apart right about now. Slowly he worked his way to the river.

Within minutes he was there thou admittedly it felt longer within the warriors mind. He began to fill the buckets and carried them forward. Suddenly a sound could be herd from the trees. Leos put his buckets down and strapped his shield to his arm then unsheathed his blade. The noise began to move around him. Leos' eyes darted back and forth watching for an ambush. His grip tightened on the hilt of his blade and his arm flexed within the strap of his shield.
Three figures dropped from the trees. The first thru a shot with a blunt object right to Leos' head. He rolled and head still throbbing slashed wildly at the enemy ,but, to no avail. The other creature lunged towards him ,but Leos anticipated the strike and struck the creature with the underside of his shield. As it hit the ground he speared his blade thru the goblins head. The first goblin now recovered from his leap of faith charged Leos' mace swinging wildly. Leos artfully blocked the attacks and turned his blade onto the goblins spine feeling a twist and a snap as he plunged the blade in. He turned to face the last enemy ,but, he was already gone. Could he had run so quickly? Impossible there is barely even light within the underbrush here he had to have hid. Suddenly Leos felt the flat end of a cold steel dagger graze against his windpipe as a voice behind him said "Your already dead"

"Reggie!" Leos

Re: Leos Life

Reggie drew the blade away from Leos' neck and sheathed it away.

"Dammit Higgins with this kind of attitude you're never going to excel"

Leos drew his blade

"Care to settle this in a fair match goblin?"

Reggie with a small smirk on his face

"Uhh no...Gooblin...kind of the point not to fight fair"

Leos couldn't help but laugh.

Reggie unsheathed his blade and again drew it to Leos' throat

"See Higgins it's rookie mistakes like that which are the reason you fail. You're out of your !@#$ element Leos!"

Leos dropped his head with a sigh. He'd always liked Reggie ,but, would have to be called a liar if he said there wasn't more than a few time he'd like to make sure the next time he disappeared behind the tree he wouldn't come back.

"Ok thanks for the info dude"

Reggie interrupted

"No. For you it's Mr. Dude"

Leos rolled his eyes

"Care to help with the buckets I have to re-fill now?"

Reggie smirked

"Well usually I'd let the Princess due to heavy lifting ,but, I suppose you did ask kindly"

They refilled the buckets and walked back to camp. Along the way Leos chatted with Reggie.

"So what were you doing with those other goblin's in the woods? I mean they don't even have elf ears so I know you weren't..."

Reggie cut him off

"Look how about you focus on becoming a little more great and a little less bitchy ok there Higgins?"

Leos laughed

"Just wondering what you were doing rolling around with filth that's not already on your body guy"

Reggie looked at him with shifty eyes

"I'm building a goblin army...never mind what it's for"

Leos looked back with a smile.

"And Toland knows?"

Reggie shot back

"Knows that I'm the greatest. All that needs to be known. Ever."

Laughing they entered camp and set the water by the fire.

Reggie looked over towards the Tehviking camp

"Well I got to go. Things have to be prepared"

Leos looked him over

"You know this isn't going to work right."

Reggie laughed back

"Yeah...but it will. You'll understand soon enough guy. Soon enough"

He walked off with a spring in his step. Leos wondered if he should...no forget it. He'll find out in time he thought.

"Apprentice!"

Jayne entered from behind a tent.
Leos bowed

"My mast..."

Jayne snapped

"Ok really for the last time this isn't Blar Wars. I'm not teaching you how to move rocks with your mind or how to kill your father in the most lucrative fashion possible. I'm just your Mentor."

Leos smiled

"As you wish ....my master"

Jayne face palmed

"You're lucky your actually improving with my teachings...that and there's really no one else I'd rather train. You kind of just get it. Something rare in people"

Leos retorted

"I am as my father. He was able to gain the arts of the sword quickly as well. Thou I don't think I posses his cunning nor do think I'll surpass his skill"

Jayne smiled and placed his arm upon the warrior's shoulder.

"Don't judge yourself to harshly yet my friend. After today's lesson that may change"

Leos looked at him puzzled

"And what lesson is it today Jayne?"

Jayne smiled

"Oh you shall see."

Re: Leos Life

Jayne led him to the forest but they were deeper than he had been before. Further as well for the fire of the Fury camp was no longer in sight. Not in this dark forest. The trees gazed at him overhead mammoth and hardy. He could see no direct sunlight only small beams and passing rays that had to fight thru the thicket to prevail into his vision. Here there was no sound about. Cold silence was his only friend. Even the very twigs and underbrush that he stepped upon barely made a sound...as to not disturb someone or something. He could feel a clinging chill upon his shoulders as if Death itself was wrapping it’s thin, icy fingers upon his back. Leos kept looking over his shoulder...and the forest kept replaying with nothing but the bleak void of night.

"Master" Leos muttered "What part of the forest is this?"

"The forgotten part my apprentice." Jayne responded "Long since forgotten by man and myth combined. For a time now I’ve been venturing and have discovered most sinister beasts. Creatures that very well have never seen the light of day...and may we all pray they never do."

"Why are we here my mater?" Leos shuddered "There is no light, no hope in this forsaken land. Why have you brought me here?"

"To test you" Jayne said shoving his sword into the ground. Leos stopped and brought his pack and gear to rest on the creeping ground beneath him. Jayne unsheathed his blade as he spoke "You have come to the final leg of your training Leos. Now it time for your last challenge before I can truly claim you as a adapt from my camp. This has been my secret for quite a time. This forest has danger and death filled within every vine and stick. Nothing here is sacred or safe. This is why I trained here for a time. For here is where one's mettle is not tested, but, hardened. Here a warrior is not on guard he is on alert. Here Leos my friend you will not be safe with the Fury at your back to guide and help you, all you'll have is your shield, your blade, and your battle sense to strike a path. Here you will be pushed, and battered, and stricken with fear, dread, and the unknown. But should you survive you will emerge from this place anew. Your sword will be your body and your shield your very soul. Your insight will be quickened and your combat will be sharpened to a point. You will truly be a warrior that your father could not only be proud of, but, be thankful for. Are you ready for your final challenge my friend?"

Leos looked around. The chilling forest seemed to look upon him now with a ravenous hunger. He could almost see the devils and demons of the night jumping and raving, licking their lips with anticipation of the feast. They could see into him, past his clothes, his skin, his bone, into his being. They wanted to taste that. His very life force was their ecstasy. But Leos too stared back into the abyss of the forest. He felt a power within him rise to this challenge. He felt his muscles tighten, his hair stand on end. His vision did not narrow, but, rather widened to allow him to see all within his sight, his hand gripped his sword from the sheath and dexterously unsheathed the blade. A fire began to burn within him. A fire he would harness and control. He would use it to light his path, to vanquish his foes, and to his dying breath he would use it incinerate all of that which was between him and his goals. He strapped his shield within a second. Now Leos felt not cold, not darkness, not fear, nor fragility. Only focus, concentration, and the thirst of the challenge. He stepped forward

"I AM ready my master!"

Jayne saw what had now been awakened within the man. And was pleased with the results. He hefted his sword from the ground and spoke

"We shall see my apprentice. Indeed we shall see"

Re: Leos Life

I fixed the typo...look i agree that in terms of the most awesome typo ever that was indeed epic ,but, i kinda want my stories to make sense. At least to me.

Also (not like anyone cares) I'll probably write the next one for Warrior-poet night.
