So, you want to make a Spear?
I have been getting bugged a lot about how I make spears (mostly to have me make them for people). I believe in teaching a man to fish rather than giving him fish so as a result I have made a picture tutorial on how to make a spear (I used my new Bandpole).
I made this with anything you can find in a local wal-mart minus the bandpole which I got from music123.com for 15 dollars with free shipping. (awesome)
THINGS YOU WILL NEED:
1 8 foot bandshoppe pole (or bamboo, or whatever core you want really)
1 Roll of Ozark trail Camp mat
1 Roll of Gold's Gym Yoga mat
1 POOF brand football
1 Can of Dap (I used carpet tape because I am tricky like that)
1 tube of Gorilla glue
1 Roll of Athletic or Hockey tape
1 Roll of Strapping tape
1 Cover for your spear (I used an unlabeled dress sock)
STEP ONE
Prep dat core!, I adhered a quarter to the tip of my core and crossed it with strapping tape and wrapped around that cross with a strip of strapping tape (you will be doing this a lot)
STEP TWO
Cut out a piece of blue foam that will taco all the way around your core. I marked the top part of mine because I'm dumb and forget sometimes.

Re: So, you want to make a Spear?
STEP SEVEN
First off, check it out! if I didn't crank the !@#$ out of the first two layers we'd have a minimum spec red weapon according to the new rules (scary that 2 layers of blue gets you to that right?) Of course it'd fail for hit and stuff. Don't try it.
Anyway, the next step involves adding some progressive resistance to your striking surface. I used some harbor freight floor mat (which is a super high density closed cell foam) however you can also use a piece of thick leather and a piece of blue foam. Dap it on, cross it with strapping tape and reinforce it going around the shank of the head with more tape.
STEP SEVEN
Add another layer of blue foam and reinforce it like you have been, add a disc of Gold's gym Yoga Mat and reinforce it and then wrap the head in a taco of blue foam. I'd prefer to use 1/8 inch volara but you cant get that at Wal-Mart. Anyway dap it down and tape up the seam and continue.
STEP EIGHT
Add 3 discs of Yoga mat to the tip this time, reinforce when all 3 are added and then move on to step Nine.
STEP NINE (almost done)
Cut out a 1 inch thick FLAT disc of POOF brand football. You can achieve this with other open cell foam but POOF is good quality and available at Wal-Mart rather than online. Dap it to the top, reinforce it with strapping tape and make sure to wrap your reinforcement tape all the way to the top of the yoga mat.
You are now looking at an ALMOST finished spear
STEP TEN
What you are looking at is my (sort of) finished spear. I simply taped a sock to the head of the spear and added a pommel. (look for a pommel tutorial online if you dont know how to do this...it's really easy)

Re: So, you want to make a Spear?
In summation, this tutorial gets you a spear tip that is around 3.4 inches wide and hits very friendly in almost all weather conditions. My Spear came out at about 40 oz which isn't awful and can fit into all sorts of places most fat spear heads can't.
Enjoy your new spear and hit people in the nuts!
