Re: The Diary of Jayne

Sinners and Saints Part Two
The darkness was intrusive. The smell of the forest was simultaneously understated and overwhelming. The occasional glimpse of moonlight through the foliage and the almost constant rustling of the leaves make me feel consistently edgy.

It soon became clear that the wind was not the only thing in the trees above me. I was still too close to the camp for it to be Magemarth’s forces or evils that lurk in the forest and too far from my target for it to be the ones I sought. No there was something else here.
I heard a whisper in the tree above me and dropped to one knee as a rock sailed past me.

“I’m not Leos, you won’t sneak up on me.”

Spinning around I unshouldered my claymore and hacked deep into the tree to my left. With a loud crack the tree bent and fell and a shrill scream ringing from its branches.

I navigate through the fallen brush the squirming figure trapped under a branch. He nervously hacked at it with the jagged rusted dagger clutched in his hand in a feverous attempt to escape from its ensnaring grasp. I stood over him and raised the claymore and let gravity carry its tip downward.

SNAP. The limb was severed freeing the goblin previously trapped under its weight. Pushing it off he slithered backward fingers gripped tightly in his hand.

“Get out of here and don’t follow me, I may not decide to keep my promise not to kill you next time.”

GROWL. He disappeared off into the darkness chattering to himself. I turned around and headed back off checking the stars through the new hole in the tree canopy to be sure of my heading and hoping that the rest of my trek was uneventful.

Eventually I found the location I had memorized from the map. Wooden palisades rose above the shrubbery that was clearly meant to keep the local wildlife out of the inside of the compound but were ill suited to protect it from the current conditions. Lights flickered through cracks in the walls showed that, as expected the place was not abandoned. Quietly I approached the simple wooden door and made sure my equipment was steadied.

Mourner Healing Poem

I will never forget, I will never forgive (12)
I pledge to kill all that which does not live (10)
Come back to fight against evil and blight (10)
We are the last line before that dark night (10)
(x4)
And now take up the Raven and rise a Mourner (12)
